The Frog Prince

I would never admit I have a frog for a pet but this frog has adopted me. I didn't really realize it was the same frog until recently. He is very discrete, hiding in the day. IF this is the same frog, he has gotten REALLY FAT! Since I have discovered him, he has made himself right at home. I left the door open and he just came right on inside. The dogs don't bother him. This is surprising since my dogs terrorize any moving thing inside their property. Frogs are dangerous (read deadly) here. They have this milky-white poison they secrete from the back of their neck.
The dogs don't always eat all their food so 'Froggy' has had a steady, regular meal. Lately, I have chipped up the liver treats I make for the dogs and added it to their dry food. They have been eating ALL OF IT and Froggy has been kicking around the metal bowls LOUDLY as if telling me - Hey, Where's MY DINNER? I'm at odds as to whether to now feed him too? I really don't want to encourage him to stay. It was just recently that I realized he was getting into the dogs food bowls and had made a home of my lanai.
He has now let his buddy come in to join him. This area where he now lives has a partition at the bottom of the bars to keep frogs OUT! His routine is to wait for the dogs to finish eating and I bring the dogs inside. He then jumps in their food bowl, eats and then moves on to the water dish to sleep. His own private frog pond.
This photo gives you an idea just how BIG this fellow really is.
What would you do? I've tried putting him outside the fence by the river but he comes back.
This is home to him.

OMG I would give him a name and a leash. And maybe treat him for ticks. He's huge.

Good to see you comment in. Wondered 'where you been'.
In the Frog Prince fable, she throws him against the wall and he turns into a prince (that's one version, the other version is she kisses him). I think I like keeping him around in frog-form. As long as he doesn't stink up the place with his poop. It smells like human feces!

Okay, DON'T throw him against the wall...try kissing him instead.
I'm surprised the "pups" haven't gotten hold of Fred the Frog yet.
Great, funny post. Your life's a TRIP.
Been busy playing nurse, but Jack's on the mend and all's well so far. Crap, his royal highness calls for ice-cream. Gotta go!

I couldn't help myself. It's been three days the dogs have eaten all their food and 'Froggy' is showing some weight loss. I feed him.
BTW - I never see where he goes to the bathroom. The lanai stays clean. Could he jump out of the bars to do his business and then return? This frog has been around here for years. I recognized him even though he has gotten fat.

I don't want to risk it with a kiss. I like him in his frog form. Not too demanding :)
They say some frogs get dogs high with the liquid they secrete from their neck. Maybe, there's a grander reason the frog gets to hang-out in their day area and eat their food. M A Y B E, he's my dog's pet lollipop!
It does get a little wacky living here.

You have a poisonous toad there. If one of your dogs licks him it could die. This is not a pet. You must get rid of him.

Thanks Tom. I thought so. My dogs get all foamy mouth when they mess with him. They've been playing with frogs since they were puppies and I guess, they are immuned.
REGARDLESS, off he goes. I'm taking him and his buddy far, far away, TODAY! He's lived here for years and keeps coming back when I relocate him. I just didn't take him far enough away. TODAY!

I like this story, although it's old now so I wonder where the frog is! I also like that I can see where you keep your key...unless you put it there for size comparision....

In the real story about the Frog Prince, the princess throws him against the wall to break the spell. As of September 12th, the frog has left the building. I gave him the boot!

and how do you know it's the same frog? don't all frogs look alike? LOL. you should tag them with spray paint. what exactly is the life span of a frog around there? seems like they live longer than some people's dogs!

Believe or not, they do have characteristics that are different but basically, they all end up fat and looking alike. The male frog, however, is a different matter. I was told by a very reliable source that saw my frogs and he is a local (Alberto), that the male frog will attach himself to the female for days (like 5 days) when they are mating and after that, the male dies. The male is smaller and dark and really mean looking. Once I tried to separate the two of them and it was impossible. They leave my patio for the birthing cause I've never seen baby frogs. I think they go to the river. Dun't know.
