"Brokin' da Board Beach" Heartbreak

If you are a reader of Yo-Yo, you know I call my beach Brokin Board Beach. I named it years ago when I first moved here because I saw so many guys walking with their head hung low, carrying their board in two pieces.

Shannon was visiting here from Canada during the Billabong World Surf Championship and she caught this shot of exactly what I see often. She emailed it to me with the subject line, "Boy crying". That says it all. With her permission, I am sharing her photo with you. Ahhh, the heartbreak of good waves.

I am happy to report that Harry from Brazil made it back to Brazil with his board in one piece! Great fun Harry, thanks for getting me back out there on the beach with my telephoto. Harry left just as the waves were settling down and now it's a little flat. The waves are fierce at times in Hermosa and be forewarned.... they do break boards when they are on a roll.

Surf Inn Hermosa

Sunday was the Grand Opening of Surf Inn Hermosa and everyone turned out for the tour and garden party. Live music, food and drinks were everywhere. Christina Truitt, the owner of Surf Inn Hermosa, helped form the local Chamber of Commerce in Jaco and has been instrumental in organizing many group efforts to improve the communities in Hermosa, Jaco, and Herradura.

Surf Inn Hermosa is beautiful inside and out. Three levels with the full service restaurant and kitchen on the third floor. The expansive view of Hermosa Beach from the restaurant is breathtaking. A real MUST SEE! There are five units available for rent by the night or week, four units have one bedroom/one bath and one unit, beachfront on the ground level, has two bedrooms and two baths. They are modern, spacious, and gorgeous. There is also a pool cleverly positioned within the structure. The complete project is absolutely awesome and I am so happy for Christina that her dream is coming true. Surf Inn Hermosa is sure to be the landmark for Hermosa and a fun gathering place.

The "Pig Farm" in Hermosa

In a year from now, I doubt this will be here. I hope so but it's beachfront property and it will probably get gobbled up by developers. Just to the south of this is Hermosa Palms residential community. It has grown in leaps and bounds in less than 5 years. I'm glad I knew it when it was this.
